Mike Wright and George Newton secured a defense verdict in Tallapoosa County Circuit Court following the two-week trial of a medical malpractice and wrongful death case against a cardiologist. The plaintiff alleged that the cardiologist’s management of the patient’s conscious sedation during an angioplasty and stent placement procedure, and subsequent resuscitation efforts, were negligent, causing the patient to experience an hypoxic brain injury and death. The defense successfully argued that the conscious sedation and subsequent resuscitation efforts were managed appropriately and that the patient’s complications were due to coronary artery dissection, a recognized complication of angioplasty procedures.
