Sybil Newton was reappointed by the Alabama Supreme Court in October of 2024 to serve her sixth three-year term as a member of the Standing Committee on the Alabama Rules of Appellate Procedure, which will run until October of 2027. This Standing Committee meets together quarterly, along with the Clerk of the Alabama Supreme Court and a liaison Justice of the Court, to discuss and propose new rules and amendments to existing appellate rules and/or appellate procedures which it then recommends to the Supreme Court of Alabama for consideration and adoption.
