Scott Salter recently spoke at the 60^th Alabama Defense Lawyers Association Annual Meeting.  Scott presented on Navigating AI in the Legal World – The Ethical Obligations of Lawyers.  Artificial Intelligence is at the cutting edge of the legal profession.  The presentation covered the ethical duties of attorneys in a world when attorneys are using AI more and more, and clients are putting pressures on firms to use AI to increase efficiency and cut costs, all against a backdrop of continuing with high quality work product.  While AI products promise attorneys they will do more work in the same amount of time, saving hours in document production and review, summarizing documents and medical records, performing legal research in hours that might take days, and brief writing, the Rules of Professional Conduct still apply. The program looked at the ethical obligations and requirements that bind the legal profession in the use of AI, including the duty of competency in the use of AI, advising and communicating with clients regarding the use of AI, and the duty of candor owed to courts
