Alfred Perkins, a partner in the firm’s Birmingham office, was recognized in the Birmingham Business Journal’s annual “Who’s Who in Diversity and Inclusion” list. This list highlights individuals who have made significant contributions to advancing diversity and inclusion efforts within their community.
Alfred serves as the Chair of the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. As a leader of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee, Alfred ensures the firm continually evaluates and implements initiatives designed expressly to enhance the firm’s diversity to include, following the guidelines of excellence, a superior work ethic, and leadership in the legal profession; recruiting, mentoring, and retaining candidates that meet the firm’s philosophy of excellence; providing attorneys flexible hours to enable them to better fulfill their family obligations; encouraging attorneys and staff to be actively involved with professional and leadership opportunities; supporting minority affiliated programs and conferences; and maintaining the firm’s certification of the Mansfield Rule for Mid-Sized Law Firms.
Alfred’s legal practice is devoted to representing and defending employers, businesses, professionals, and governmental entities in civil litigation primarily in the areas of employment discrimination, wage and hour, complex litigation, commercial disputes, product liability, legal malpractice, governmental liability, and wrongful death/catastrophic injury. He has represented public and private entities in both federal and state courts, agency proceedings, and arbitrations. Alfred has defended manufacturers, restaurants, universities, financial institutions, municipalities, insurers, retailers, and professionals among his clients. He also performs investigations and provides training and counseling for employers. In addition, he is a trained mediator and is on the Panel of Neutrals for the Northern District of Alabama.
Alfred is listed in Best Lawyers in America® for Labor & Employment Litigation, has been named “Litigation Star” in Benchmark Litigation, has been recognized as a Top Leading Litigator by Chambers USA, has been named a Litigation Counsel of America Trial Lawyer Honorary, and has been appointed Chair of the Employment Law Committee of the International Association of Defense Counsel.
Alfred is an active member of his church, serving in the worship ministry, the photography ministry, and the technical arts ministry. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the HUB Community Development Corporation, which is a church-affiliated entity whose mission is to develop dynamic neighborhoods, revitalize communities and improve the quality of life for residents in Jefferson County, Alabama and serves on the Board of Directors of Music City Youth in the Arts, Inc., a Tennessee non-profit which operates Music City Drum Corps. Alfred formerly served as President of the Board of Directors for a church-affiliated daycare, President of the Band Boosters organization at Spain Park High School, and a Member of the scholarship committee of the Magic City Bar Association. In addition, Alfred was as an adjunct professor of Trial Advocacy at the University of Alabama School of Law.
