Andy Laird and Billy DeBuys obtained a defense verdict in favor of a municipality in the trial of a workers’ compensation case in the Circuit Court of Jefferson County, Bessemer Division. The employee alleged he was permanently and totally disabled as a result of a back injury suffered on the job. Testimony from six witnesses was presented during the trial. The judge ruled that the employee did not suffer a compensable injury to his back while working in the line and scope of his employment with the City and, therefore, the City was not responsible for medical or vocational benefits and the employee was not entitled to indemnity benefits.
