Allison Adams and Billy Bates secured a defense verdict for two general surgeons in a wrongful death case tried in Shelby County, Alabama. The case involved the readmission of a patient to the hospital following recent hernia repair surgery. The plaintiff contended that the surgeons should have placed a nasogastric tube in the patient and should have ordered further diagnostic tests to determine whether the patient was suffering from an ileus or a small bowel obstruction. Following a six day trial, the jury returned a verdict in favor of both defendant surgeons.
