Defense Verdict for MacKenzie and McCall in Surgery Case.

Bob MacKenzie, John McCall, and Clayton Bromberg obtained a defense verdict for a colon and rectal surgeon in a seven-day trial involving the alleged improper cessation of steroid therapy. In the case, the plaintiff alleged the defendant improperly ceased the provision of Decadron upon hospital admission while cognizant that the patient had taken the medication for over twenty-five years for respiratory and skin complaints. The plaintiff alleged the defendant failed to recognize a resulting adrenal insufficiency, thus causing the plaintiff to suffer a five month hospitalization during which he underwent an otherwise unnecessary brain biopsy for Mad Cow disease and eight electroconvulsive treatments. The defense was able to prove that the colon and rectal surgeon acted reasonably while admitting the patient for a separate complaint, and that no act or omission on his part caused or contributed to the plaintiff's injury. The jury returned a defense verdict.
